Corporate involvements

In Malaysia, the corporate sectors seem aware of the importance of recycling. They started to involve and take part in promoting the importance of recycling as a part of the corporate social responsibilities. This is a very good sign because they can educate people by their doings and involvement and also helping the government to achieved government goals.

A few names that we can be mention who really support recycle such as AEON Co. (M) BHD, TESCO Malaysia, TETRA Pak (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Sony Ericsson and many others.

AEON Co. (M) BHD

Community Recycle Centre

Community Recycle Centre (CRC) at JUSCO Shopping Centre is part of AEON partnership program with Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd.

TESCO Malaysia

Environmentally friendly stores

Since 2008, they have built a series of environmentally friendly stores, each achieving significantly lower

environmental impacts than the previous ones. Many of their energy saving innovations are now incorporated into their standard stores.

Our energy saving alternatives are focused around lighting, water consumption, air-conditioning, refrigeration and architecture design thus making each store more energy efficient.

Re-usable carrier bags

They introduced a range of alternative carrier bags to help customers use lesser carrier bags when they shop. Their customers have saved more than millions of carrier bags

since they introduced Green Clubcard Points scheme in 2008.

Recycling Centre

They launched first recycling centre at Ampang in May

2008. The centre comprises a structure with an office, basic utility and recycling bins to help customers segregate their waste. The daily operations of the centre is managed by their charity partner- Independent Living Home (for the disabled).

interesting!!

How can we make it possible?

Use 3R – reuse, reduce and recycle. This is a few ways for offices to show their commitment and participate in saving the Mother Nature.

More sustainable management of waste not only makes sense for the environment, but can improve your bottom line.

  • Reducing the amount of waste produced can cut disposal costs

  • Reusing material previously considered as waste saves energy and raw materials.

  • Recycling materials can minimise the burden of waste collection, transportation and disposal.

Reduce

  • Photocopy and print on both sides

  • Send e-mail memos to save paper

  • Store data electronically to avoid printing off

  • Review documents on-screen before printing to avoid waste

  • Update your mailing lists to avoid duplication, waste and added cost

  • Remove your name from junk mailing lists

  • Buy in bulk or in concentrated form

  • Don’t use bin liners in bins collecting dry waste

  • Avoid disposable items

  • Purchase durable equipment. By purchasing a more expensive, durable product more money can be saved

  • Buy equipment that is capable of being upgraded

  • Use rechargeable batteries and refillable ink cartridges

Reuse

  • Lease equipment instead of buying. Always have the most current mode -- no worries with maintenance.

  • Before buying new items investigate repair costs

  • Use scrap paper for messages

  • Reuse envelopes for internal correspondence

Recycle

The following materials should be segregated for recycling:

  • Aluminium cans

  • Steel cans

  • Glass bottles

  • Plastic bottles

  • Newspaper and Cardboard.

  • Computers and some other electronic equipment

Why we must recycle?

A research has been made and the breakdowns of solid waste created by Malaysians:
36.5% - Household waste
27 % - Paper
16.4% - Plastic
12.5% - Others
3.9% - Steel
3.7% - Glass

Experts believe a landfill can last 10 years longer if Malaysians recycled 50% of their garbage. The residents of Johor Bahru generate 1300 tons of waste every day. It will take only 3 days to fill the entire length of the Johor Causeway with this amount of garbage. (Abumama.com)

We produce over 15,000 tons of rubbish everyday. It is only a matter of time before we run out of space to dispose of them. Recycling reduces waste, which in turn reduces the need for landfills and dumpsites.

Recycling is cheaper in the long run compared to maintaining landfills and other systems. When recycling programs become more efficient, there will be less rubbish to dispose of.

Isn’t it so obvious why we have to do something to save our only Earth. That is why recycle is important not only to us by to everyone and also to our environment. We only have one earth.

How can we help?

Many people don’t know how to start or to do recycling. Well, you can always start by
separate your recyclable rubbish from non-recyclable rubbish for trash pick-up. The trash collectors will know what to do with them. Or just send the recyclable items to recycling centers and let them do the rest. It will only take a few minutes of your time. As simple as that.

Recycle. What it is all about?

Recycle. We heard this word everywhere we go. We see this word written all over the places. But do we really know the meaning of recycle. What recycle is all about? Now days, people keep repeating about the importance of recycling. Do we even bother to know or we just let people do it for us? Which group do we belongs to? Think for a while for the sake of our future.

Recycling is the processes of collecting, processing, remanufacturing, and reusing materials instead of discarding them. This helps conserve raw materials and energy that manufacturers would otherwise use in producing new products. Recycling also reduces the amount of material going into landfills. Recycling helps lessen the pollution that may result from waste disposal. Reducing our consumption of materials and reducing the waste of materials also adds to the conservation of our resources.

Since now, we already have an idea what is recycling is all about. Start now. Do recycling!
